City May Get Natural Gas Change Pending Survey

Fire damages room in Loper home likely caused by electric iron
A fire in the Loper residence at Eighth and Pine streets about 9 25 PM damaged one room and sent smoke through the house. Mrs Loper said she left an electric iron on when she departed about two and a half hours earlier and that the iron burned through a rug igniting the bed area. Firemen, aided by onlookers, extinguished the flames in the yard and noted the iron had dropped to the rug after burning through a cord.

City Court Hears Several Trials And Fines
In Scottsburg city court Mayor Stanley A. Switzer presided over one trial and two arraignments. Robert W. Graper received a $10 fine and costs for public intoxication after pleading guilty and allegedly resisting arrest. Max Tudor also pled guilty to public intoxication and was fined $1 with $11 in costs. Mrs. Josephine Fleetwood was found guilty of provoke filed by Diana Holman after a prior not guilty plea. The case involving C. W. Burkart and the assault and battery charge occurred near Indianapolis avenue with multiple witnesses. James Compton Sr. had trial in the morning and the case was taken under advisement after witnesses testified. Compton was accused of knocking Lester Taylor down.

The board approved Emerson Field lighting to schedule night football and events at no cost to the district, with about 1500 pounds estimated to be funded by athletic contests. Herron Rites Conducted After East Columbus Crash
Funeral services for Robert M. Herron age seventy two father of Michel Herron were held at 2 PM from Hege and Flanigan Funeral Home. The Rev T K Smith and Rev B Walls led the service. Herron died from skull fractures at Bartholomew County Hospital. Frank Lee Jewell aged sixteen pleaded guilty to riding a bicycle without lights and was fined one dollar and costs after investigation into the collision. He denied knowledge of striking Herron and questioned whether his spill caused the man in the road.
