Local Selective Service Office Closing and Relocation
Local Board No. 34 in Seymour will close on August 15 and transfer duties to a new area office at 641 Washington Street Columbus. The move, part of a statewide reduction to 19 sites, supports the all volunteer force plan. The area office serves Jackson, Bartholomew, Decatur, Jennings, and Brown counties, with records kept at the new site. Registration duties remain mandatory for 18 year olds, with four registrars available at area schools and in Seymour Brownstown Medora and Crothersville.

CHS Band Program Set for Summer Rehearsals
Crothersville High School schedules summer band rehearsals from Thursday through August 29. A 9 to 10 a m music theory class will be held in the band room with full band practice 10 to 11 30 a m daily. Neil Manzenberger, band director, notes sectional sessions from 12 to 1 p m each day.

Retirement Center Plan Denied by Jackson County Board
Jackson County board of commissioners rejected a proposal by Christian Homes Inc to purchase 10 acres of the County Farm land in Brownstown for a 100 bed retirement center with about 65 staff. Monday Night Tractor Pull Sets Attendance Record at Jackson County Fair
A Monday night tractor pulling contest drew 1,600 spectators from a 23,699 fair attendance, earning $1,200 in prizes.
