A Queen Is Crowned At Jackson County Fair
Kathy Jo Shade daughter of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Shade crowned queen of the 1972 Jackson County Fair late Sunday night. Ann Marie Miller first runner up and Debra Jane Fleetwood second runner up named. Kathy wore a white gown with a ruffled skirt Ann wore a white bodice and pink skirt and Debbie wore a floral print. They carried red roses presented during the ceremony.

Rain Dampens Seymour Fair Opening Amid Record Weather
Rain cut Seymour fair attendance on opening day to 13 260 from 19 957 as horse shows continued despite showers. First runner up in the queen contest was Ann Marie Miller with Debra Jane Fleetwood as second runner up. Wendy Hunt is the 1971 queen. Kathy Disque, Ann, and Debbie received roses and tiaras. Judges included Mrs. Hoffman and Jerry Burton. Weather records cited unofficial downtown temperatures and a 1.5 foot river reading at 7 am.

Soldier Killed in I 65 Crash Near Crothersville
A young Army private identified as Pfc. David C. Barnard 21 of Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin was killed when his 1965 convertible struck a steel exit post on I 65 near Crothersville Indiana. He apparently fell asleep at the wheel and was found hanging upside down in a water filled ditch. The accident occurred about 4 am and the car was not found until 5 45 am. Barnard was en route to Fort Knox Kentucky from Wisconsin wearing a seat belt. The Jackson County coroner Keith Burkholder said it was uncertain whether death came from crash injuries or drowning. Trooper Charles E. Conrad Sr. noted the body was upside down in water. The death marks Jackson County’s fifth traffic fatality this year matching last year’s count at this point.

Three Arrested On Drug Charges In Redding Township
Three suspects, Wanda L. Ison 18 Brownstown Robert L. Cross 22 Seymour and Gilbert L. Noel 22 Seymour were arrested at 3 am by city state and county police in Redding township on drug charges. Ison faced possession of dangerous drugs Cross possession of marijuana Noel dispensing dangerous drugs LSD. Ison pleaded guilty in city court and received a 500 dollar fine and six months in prison suspended on good behavior.
