Retail food dealers anticipate a change in operating hours as Indiana state code proposes a 63 to 68 hour week. A Tuesday meeting was planned to decide a local schedule after discussions with Washington officials and the Indianapolis code convention.
Jackson county residents and friends will attend the nineteenth Brown county reunion in Garfield Park Indianapolis next Sunday. A noon basket dinner precedes a musical and speaking program with Dr Charles A Neidigh as president of the reunion society. Principal speaker will be Dr H B Ferrell of Washington. About 500 attended last year.
Arthur Roy Whitsett fifty five a longtime resident was found dead in a cornfield near his home southwest of the city early this morning He had gone to the field to work and apparently grew ill Relatives said he died shortly after leaving the house He was an unmarried farmer and poultry-raiser survived by his mother three brothers Archie and Howard both of Seymour Irl of Madison Ind and two sisters Minnie Heiwie and Goldie Funeral services set for 2 30 PM Tuesday at Tower Funeral Home with Rev Elwin Daniels Central Christian Church officiating Burial will follow Riverview Cemetery
Jackson County wheat growers may receive cash adjustment payments totaling about 48721 if all participate in the Agricultural Adjustment Administration plan. Statewide payments would reach about 3.5 million dollars with 25 to 28 cents per bushel based on county quotas. Payments depend on signing up and reducing production for 1934 and 1935, with two thirds paid after mid September and one third next spring.
A large crowd attended the final night of the Soldiers Reunion and Homecoming in Brownstown Saturday night. Sponsored by Camp Jackson Post No. 112, American Legion, the event drew the week’s largest turnout on Thursday for Seymour night. An accident marred the celebration when Prof D L Dennis of Franklin, balloonist, fractured ribs after hitting a fence pot during descent.
After the barber registration board was appointed, plans proceed to implement a new licensing law taking effect September 1. Barbers must be licensed and registered with an 18 month apprenticeship, a 75 percent exam score, and a physician’s fitness certificate. Exemptions apply to those with six months in the trade before enactment.
A Sunday gathering of Seymour Post No 89 members and the drum and bugle corps attended the Ninth District American Legion convention in Madison. A business session drafted resolutions for Evansville state convention. Delegates T A Plonkett Coulter Montgomery and M W Steinwedel represented the local post. The district, largest in the state, will influence the convention due to its membership. A parade occurred and posts agreed to join the NRA movement by signing a binding paper.
The Rev S J Cross preached on The Sin of the Second Best at Shields Park union service. Next Sunday’s service moves to First Methodist Church due to park ovations. A M F Church will lead. Text I Kings 20 30 40.

The Tribune fixes a typographical error about part time pay and interprets wage rules for part time work on a 40 week basis as one fortieth of the weekly minimum per hour. It also clarifies agreements for employers with multiple businesses or labor classes and lists certain categories under professional persons and apprentices.
Twenty five Jackson county 4-H boys and girls travel with six leaders to Bishop Roberts Park River Vale near Mitchell for the annual camp opening today and running through Friday. County party includes twenty three girls two boys and six leaders. Local leaders include Miss Ida Denny Mrs Della Hutchinson Mrs Bertha Robinson Raleigh Fosbrink and Charles Stall with Berniece Heller as life guard. Attendees from Lawrence Martin and Orange counties expected to register.
Indiana National Guardsmen passed through Seymour by motor trucks and special trains en route to Fort Knox Kentucky for a two week training period. The movement includes about 4540 enlisted men and 380 officers from northern Indiana. Advance units and convoys used U S 21 and the Pennsylvania railroad.
Utica dispatch reports violence as nonparticipants in New York milk strike face threats and injuries while strikers attempt to dump milk. State police guard plants and trucks as Governor Lehman authorizes sheriffs to appoint extra deputies and considers mobilizing the National Guard amid mounting pleas for aid.
Jason Lynch of Seymour Fire Department and Edwin Miller of Brownstown Fire Company will travel to Gary to attend the Indiana Firemen's Association convention at the New Hotel Gary next Tuesday to Thursday. Lynch will represent Seymour. the event includes public protection features and a Chicago tour of A Century of Progress.
The Recovery administration urged spending to boost jobs under the blue eagle banner and warned against buying elsewhere. Hugh S. Johnson led the push while noting wage and hour agreements with industry, aiming to balance production and purchasing power amid a temporary code program. Cotton textiles and coats were among five industries highlighted.
Wheat growers of Hamilton township will meet at 8 o'clock tonight at the Cortland school. The meeting is part of Jackson county wheat farmer activities under W P Stall. Jackson township growers meet Tuesday at 5 pm at Easting Consolidated School.
