U S air strikes misdirected hit the Mekong River base at Neak Loung southeast of Phnom Penh killing about 100 and wounding many. An additional strike killed at least a dozen civilians in a village near Prek Eng.
Jane Miller III Queen Blond Jane Louise Miller was crowned 1973 Jackson County Fair Queen after a late Sunday coronation before a full grandstand. Sponsors, runners up, and the 29 contestants were announced as the fair drew large crowds and featured horse shows, parades, and events across Sunday afternoon.
A Columbus man, Elmo F. Hurd, 37, suffered fractures to both arms and the left leg after a collision between his eastbound motorcycle and a pickup truck on U S 50 west of Seymour. He was hospitalized at Schneck Memorial and then at Indiana University Medical Center. The 1966 pickup driven by Wayne Schepman, 36, turned into a farm lane forcing the motorcycle to strike the rear of the truck. Janet L. Schepman, 32, received a head bump and was treated locally. Damage: truck $350, motorcycle $1,600. State police investigated the crash.
The National Weather Service says showers will arrive Friday after a week of fair weather in Indiana. A western plains low pressure system will move east bringing warmer and more humid conditions Wednesday and Thursday. Ruth Everhart notes opening day highs around 86 with a low of 56 as river levels fall.
A 31 year old German and his small dog Snoopy paused in Seymour on the final leg of a three year round the world bicycle journey. Horst Wiegand Lichtenfels from Wiesbaden, aiming to become a German foreign correspondent, spoke of the dangers and his finances while staying at Camp Louis Ernst at Dupont weekend.

A 13 year old Seymour boy was apprehended Saturday morning in a 1972 sedan he allegedly took Friday afternoon from a grocery store parking lot. Seymour city police said the youth was arrested and charged with vehicle theft.
Police report a juvenile suspect taken to Jackson County jail detention quarters after a dark green sedan stolen from Nolt ing's IGA was spotted en route south on O'Brien street. Lt Bullard stopped the vehicle in the 800 block as Sgt Jewett coordinated with city officers.
