Harris Told To Get Lawyer By August 19
Alonzo Harris 32 of Freetown Alabama appeared in Jackson Circuit Court on the second day of Judge John M. Lewis's return. Harris admitted a name change and the court refused a public defender, ordering him to reappear August 19 with his own counsel for arraignment after being indicted for voluntary manslaughter in the July 24 deer hunting shooting of Manuel Dean Rouse.

The 1963 Jackson County Fair opens with judging of 4-H Crop exhibits sheep hogs and horticultural displays. Grandstand receipts lagged slightly while midways drew crowds and carnival receipts rose. An automobile collided head on with the lead bus in a string of three carrying German teachers on tour. The crash near Andersonville on U.S. 52 injured more than a dozen and sent 40 to 50 bus passengers to Rush County Hospital. The Chicago driver Harry Nussbaum, 59, was in very serious condition.

Two Very Neat Men Rob Bank Of $15 300
Two armed men robbed Ladoga State Bank nine miles northeast of Crawfordsville during a bank conference. They escaped with 15 300 in cash including 3000 in tens and 3000 in hundreds. Bank president Ernest Ball suffered shock and was treated by a doctor. No getaway car description was obtained.
