Jackson County Fair officials praised Tuesday night turnout as Jack Joyce's jungle racing and wild animal exhibition drew a near full 2000-seat grandstand. The program featured camels llamas ponies and a trained zebra with humor from clowns and camel rides by local youths. Today and tomorrow include 4-H judging dairy cattle poultry and a grandstand lineup with Road-E-O and auto stunts. Farm Bureau Day Thursday features a pet parade and livestock parades with three-quarter midget races. The 4-H Calf Scramble is set for Saturday with 12 entrants and calves to be raised for the next fair.

Brownstown seeks large tax hikes across town library and schools
Budgets published for Brownstown civil town library and Brownstown Consolidated Schools propose tax increases. Civil town levy would jump from 67 to 140 cents per hundred, raising about 34,137 dollars. School levy rises from 275 to 290 cents with total funds up to 171,648 dollars. Library levy increases 35.7 percent to 19 cents, funds rising to 4,847 dollars. Public hearings set August 25 and August 28 at 7:30 p.m. and the trustees’ meeting place.

State Files Two More Land Suits
The State of Indiana filed two additional condemnation suits in Jackson Circuit Court for Interstate 65 rights of way. The Weather Bureau said scattered showers may reach the north end tonight through Friday with a statewide shower risk by Saturday not exceeding three quarters of an inch. Highs in the 80s persist with humidity. White River read 12.4 feet at Rockford this morning, down over two feet in 24 hours. roads closed in Seymour District include Ind 235 east of Medora, Ind 256 west of Austin, and Ind 39 south of Tampico. Tuesday temps ranged 89 high and 64 low.
