Fire destroys two story frame home in Seymour morning blaze
Firefighters battled a heavy blaze at 617 East Second Street in Seymour for about ninety minutes. The two story frame house owned by Wadrell White, occupied by the James Marshall family, suffered extensive damage to walls and roof decks with water and smoke damage to contents. Firefighters faced intense heat and smoke and had to hack through walls to reach the fire between the walls. Marshall and his son were home but uninjured.

Tragic 23-Month-Old Drowns In Rural Well Near Bethany
A Bartholomew County toddler Cynthia Hughes aged 23 months fell into a 100 foot deep well on the Fred Donner property south of Bethany near Columbus. Deputy James McKinney rescued her but efforts to revive failed. The lid allegedly flipped after the child stepped on it.
