Car overturns and burns injuring two youths near Reddington
A 1940 two door sedan carrying Thomas Trotter 15 and Chester Horning 17 skidded on gravel, hit a concrete abutment, rolled and burned on a rural road north of Seymour. Both boys suffered serious injuries and were taken to Schneck Memorial Hospital. David Baldwin 12 was treated for cuts and bruises. Frieda Bohall pulled the injured to safety as neighbors aided, and Officer Fred McClain investigated. The dinner for U.S. Senate candidate Alex Campbell was cancelled though Campbell would greet fairgoers later that day.

Delayed Judging in Home Beautification Contest
Judging of flower gardens and lawns entered in the Home Beautification contest by the Seymour Chamber of Commerce Civic Pride committee has been postponed to early next week. Originally set for this weekend the delay follows one judge being called out of town with more than twenty entries expected. If rain forces delays, judging will likely occur Tuesday. Prizes include a lawn mower a table model radio and a metal lawn chair with merchant donations. The identities of the judges will remain confidential.

Frank Findley Dies Unexpectedly Here
Frank Findley 69 lifelong Jackson county resident and filling station owner died suddenly Friday at his Ninth and Ewing Streets station. Born July 17 1881 he married Flossie Asbell in 1904 and leaves a widow six children three brothers and three sisters as well as thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services are set for Monday at Voss Mortuary with burial at Riverview Cemetery.

H William Prentice announced the appointment and noted Miller succeeds Stuart S Blish who resigned to move to Indianapolis. The Jackson County fair opens next week with horse shows bicycle and pony races stage and radio acts and band concerts. Western and English horse shows at 2 and 7 30 with 11 afternoon and eight evening classes and a gate fee for adults. Wednesday features Bradley Kincaid and his Kentucky Mountain Boys. a pony race precedes the show on the near complete track. The Jackson county fair band led by Harold Walters includes about 150 players from Seymour Brownstown and county ensembles with concerts at 3 and 7 30. Monday night will host bicycle races on the new track.

Indiana mobilization quickened as calls reached national guard units reserve detachments and individual reservists.
