Ex-State Highway Driver Faces Homicide Charge
A state highway truck driver, Guy Weekly, 57, Norman Ril, is charged with reckless homicide after a fatal collision on U S 50 east of Seymour that killed Vernie W Adams Sr, 65, and his granddaughter Linda Adams, 11, both of North Vernon. Four others in the car were injured. Weekly pleaded guilty to DUI and reckless driving charges earlier and faces potential arraignment on the homicide count.

Electric Power Shorted Collision Injures Four East Of City
Four people were injured near Seymour when two cars collided Sunday afternoon three miles east of the city. A second mishap cut electrical service to the county’s western area. Injured were Faye Thompson and two children, with treatment at Schneck Memorial Hospital. A separate incident 2.6 miles south of Wallonia caused a power line to short and a car fire with no injuries.

Sniper Wounds Eight on UT Austin Campus
A sniper firing from the University of Texas tower wounded eight people today. Shots fired from both sides of the 25th floor tower in the center of the campus as officers moved to neutralize the threat with rifles and telescopic sights.

Brownstown Central School proposes 1967 tax levy hike
The Brownstown Central Community School Corporation proposes a 1967 tax rate of 3.70, up from 3.30 this year, to fund school operations. Judith Walker Smith, 22, of Indianapolis, was fatally injured Saturday when she fell from a horse 6 miles northeast of Beab Blossom in Brown County. She was the wife of Philip A. Smith, a reporter for the Indianapolis Star.
