About 5000 people attended the Jackson County REMC 11th annual membership picnic at the fairgrounds near Brownstown. 1215 members registered, with one person per family. District Eight elected Bee Spurgeon. Arvil McIntyre and Hugh Richey reelected from Districts Two and Five. New board officers include McIntyre as president and Brewer as secretary treasurer. John Hamer reported REMC progress over the past two years.

Minor wrecks add up to damages near Medora
Police report several minor collisions in Medora area this past weekend. A 1948 sedan owned by Lawrence Jewell and driven by Don Beavers collided with a 1942 sedan driven by Marie Endicott at Fourth and Chestnut, causing about $200 in damage. Beavers said the Chestnut stop sign was hidden by a parked car. Endicott’s car suffered about $100 damage to its left side, while Jewell’s car sustained about $100 damage to its front.

The Seymour Municipal Swimming Pool in Shields Park meets all Indiana state board of health tests and cleanliness requirements. Assistant sanitary engineer Gerald Hendricks noted the water is clear and tests are satisfactory after inspection Saturday. Pool staff, led by deputy manager James F, cleaned the deep end.

Friends Visit Local Breeder by Airplane
Irving Schneider of All-Shire Farm in Campbells town Ohio described an air trip by Hampshire breeder Harry Aydelotte to his Seymour area farm. Aydelotte and pilot Stewart landed at Freeman Field Sunday morning, toured the herd of 250 Hampshire Breeder hogs, and shared dinner. The auto route is 120 miles, air travel 80 miles with about 50 minutes flight time. Aydelotte said the plane felt safer than driving.

Jackson Circuit Court at Brownstown charged Keith Cole with second degree burglary for the November 12 1947 safe burglary at Seymour Finance Company. Detectives from Seymour state police post arrested him. Other suspects were named but not released. Funeral services set for Mrs Zella Wright 80 Wallonia
Funeral services for Mrs Zella Ann Wright 80 of Wallonia will be at 2 PM Tuesday at Driftwood Christian Church with Rev John A Phelps and Rev T D Pinnick officiating. Burial will follow in Driftwood Cemetery. Mrs Wright died Saturday night at Schneck Memorial Hospital after a two week illness. She was born November 22 1868 in the county and survived by two sons a brother two sisters five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Her husband William Sherman Wright preceded her in death. She was a member of the Driftwood Christian Church and Wallonia Home Economics Club. Friends may call at Johnson Funeral Home Wallonia.

Man and daughter killed in train truck crash near Garden City
A northbound Penn Central passenger train struck a truck at the Van Blaricum crossing near U S Route 31 south of Garden City. The driver Gwinn Wooten 28 and his 22 month old daughter Brenda Louise died instantly. Wooten's 12 year old daughter Peggy witnessed from nearby. The train slowed after traveling 842 feet, with the crash fracturing the truck frame across long distances.

Mrs. Etta Ryan 69, former Uniontown resident, died Sunday in Miami after a lingering illness. Born April 9, 1880, she married Elmer Ryan in 1902, who preceded her. Fires damage residence and car in Seymour weekend
The Seymour fire department responded to two blazes over the weekend. A spark on a shingle roof at the Ledbetter residence at 918 West Laurel street burned about 10 feet of shingles before firefighters stopped the fire. A 1929 model sedan on East Fourth Street northeast of Broadway was destroyed by interior flames after the owner Everett Allman said the car ran out of gasoline and he left to gas up.
