Posters showing membership in the National Recovery Administration appear in shops across the city as signups for the Presidents Reemployment Agreement continue. Mail carriers spread pledge cards districtwide while post office officials report over seventy firms have received insignia and materials.
State roads in the area are reported in good condition with U S 50 being oiled from the junction with Road 35 toward Fairview. State Road 35 from Road 50 to Salem was oiled recently by Seymour district workers under James M. Mann. Oil now extends to Medora and will continue toward Fairview. No detour exists but slow driving prevents oil on cars. roads typically recover to fair condition within a few hours. Oil of State Road 250 from Brownstown to the Jackson County State Forest entrance should begin late this week or Monday, Mann announced.

Six year old Joe Donnels was struck by a turning automobile driven by C. H. Wallace in the gut ter near a grocery at Poplar and Brown streets. He suffered bruises and was taken to a physician who reported no serious injuries.
Fifteen hundred students including eighteen from Jackson county complete summer term August 9 and prepare for fall opening September 6. Twenty-eight states and three foreign countries represented. New two year elective course and cooperative housing cut costs. job opportunities offered through Cooperative Dining Club reducing board. Jackson county students listed include Margaret Sage, William Conner, Thomas Shields, Velma Fountain, Taylor Hoffar, and others.
Several hundred Indiana National Guard members travel through Seymour en route to Fort Knox Kentucky for annual training starting August 6. Fourteen special trains will be needed for the main movement. The Indianapolis contingent numbers about 500 men and the 38th division total reaches around 6 000 with Indiana and Kentucky members.
Purdue official J. H. Skinner announces a statewide educational campaign under the Agricultural Adjustment Act to inform every farmer about the wheat production plan. County agents and extension service channels will spread details on the plan’s meaning and impact as six district meetings wrap up in Indiana.
Baptists from Brownstown Baptist Association gathered at Bethany Baptist Church for the ninety eighth annual session to be held today and Wednesday. Rev. A. A. Cohn of First Baptist Church is moderator. Speakers include Rev. G. C. Mitchell Evangelism director and Rev. T. J. Parsons Indianapolis executive secretary Indiana Baptist Convention. Principal address tonight will be by Rev. Cohn on Evangelism the Remedy and Wednesday night by Dr. William Gear Spencer Franklin College president.
The annual Soldiers' Reunion and Homecoming began Monday night in Brownstown with strong turnout. Features include a parachute jump from a balloon each afternoon, and crowds are expected all week. Concessions and rides line the courthouse square as former residents plan returns to renew old ties. Prof. D. L. Dennis of Franklin completed his first balloon ascent Monday night, landing safely after the 6 PM jump under his white parachute.
Alfred Christie of this city reported to Seymour police that the attendant at his fill station was held up about 3 46 or 4 o clock Monday morning and robbed of 14 dollars. Two well dressed men loitered around the station for about forty five minutes before a gun was brandished and the money taken. They fled in an automobile and authorities have no clue to the robbery.
The weight tax applies to all for hire trucks, rates set at 1 cent per pound with exemptions for internal city use, US mail contracts, school buses, livestock or farm transport, newspaper distribution, private business use, and moves within residences. Metal tax tags will be issued by the automobile license bureau under Commissioner Frank Finney, with enforcement by the state police led by Captain Matt Leach. The tax must be paid before license plates are issued, and exemptions are certificate-backed. The local branch reports a crowd as half price auto licenses go on sale with extra staff assisting buyers.
The Seymour district project for the Indiana State Highway Commission moved toward start after Wendel Brothers Company of Columbus won the bid. The $17,351 contract covers a combined office and garage building near U S Routes 31 and 50 with a 90 day completion clause and immediate site preparation.
J P Matlock was named by the county council to represent the body on the county board of tax adjustment. Fred Mitchell resigned from the council after moving from Crothersville. Carence Kovener of Crothersville was elected to fill the vacancy.
Washington August 1 Some pertinent facts about wage raising hour shortening agreements go into effect today for retailers and foodstuffs dealers. One agreement covers grocery and food businesses the other furniture hardware department store specialty shop mail order clothing shoe and dry goods retailers. Both replace provisions in the Roosevelt general agreement. The retailers code provides a 40 hour week with 48 hours for inventories and peak times and more than three weeks off in six months. A 48 hour week or longer for professional maintenance delivery and outside salesmen.
President Roosevelt opened a special inquiry into ways to fight the kidnaping racket in a Hyde Park conference with adviser Raymond Moley. Charles F. Urschel, Oklahoma City oil magnate kidnapped July 22, returned home unharmed at midnight. For now the Urschels and their spokesmen kept silent on ransom and negotiations.
J R Thompson local dairy executive spoke to the Young Men’s Class in the church basement on the National Industrial Recovery Act. Work on Highway 58 began Monday to oil and dust through Waymansville Ogilville and Old Ogilville. Completion is set for August 3, announced by Harvey Oltman, superintendent of the Columbus sub-district. Surface treatment on Road 46 between Columbus and Nashville will start Thursday, followed by work on the remaining half to Nashville.

John H. Plump, son of F. H. Plump, died at his Walesboro home at 6 p m Monday. Born March 30, 1875 near here, he lived much of his life in Bartholomew county. Funeral services will be held at Walesboro at 2 p m Wednesday, with burial in Columbus.
Bartholomew county deputy Ira Taggart resigns and will work as an automobile salesman. Sheriff J. W. Foust says no new deputy will be appointed now. He notes pay prospects from the county are dim and will hire if an assistant is needed, paying from his own salary.
