The Brownell homestead reservoir is now complete with a 100 pound pressure system feeding Seward's mains and power generation. A 16 by 24 foot by 8 foot deep tank stores water from a living spring, supplying the town via a Winch pipe and lines extending toward Madison street. The project, costing substantial effort by Seward Water Power Co, aims to prevent low pressure and muddy water and to support future expansion.

Excelsior Out of Commission and Alaska Steamer Movements
The steamer Excelsior sprung a leak and will go out of commission after a rough voyage from the north. The Northwestern Steamship Company charters the tug Equator to carry Seward-Valdez mail on the Santa Ana route. The Santa Ana is pulled off the beach at Calliam Bay and expected to arrive. Saratoga and Northwestern join the Seattle-Seward-Valdez service once Nome fleet is released. George W. Dutton travels to Seward for copper property, with fifteen men and eight horses bound for the outside. Receiver Takes Healy Company In Alaska Deal
The Central Alaska Company, formed by Capt. John J. Healy to explore the Kuskokwim, passed to a receiver after Healy’s ouster. Hugo Beyer was first named, then replaced by R. A. Wright to wind up affairs. The firm has sixty tons of provisions left and staff faced food shortages. stockholders accuse Healy of misused funds and he filed $19,000 damages suit. The steamer Nunivak, the firm’s principal asset, is on the Kusokwim river to be sold.

Two Convicts Escape From Yukon Steamer Lavelle Young

Pioneer miner to leave Crow Creek mining claims
William C Girdwood of Crow creek will depart for the mainland on the Bertha after a month long visit. An early Cook Inlet prospector, he began work on upper Crow creek in 1895 and, with partners Andrew Williamson Lid burn Arthur Oliver Skoyen and William Ellis, located the original claims. He is a civil and mining engineer who has prospected in Nome and the Tanana. His brother James Girdwood of New York will oversee the property in his absence.
