Tragic accidental shooting at Seward water works
William Nelson shot himself by accident at 2 am in the Seward Water & Power Company office. The loaded gun discharged as he handled it after hearing a suspected intruder. He had cleaned the gun earlier and was not believed to have motive for suicide. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church with Arctic Brotherhood rites.

Alaska Quartz Mines and Divergent Mining Claims
Alaska mining reports dispute Chester W. Purington’s claim that Treadwell is the only dividend mine. Juneau and other districts cite several producers, with daily tonnages listed for numerous mines and notes on ore content and value. Additional items include a Diamond Drill office planned at Katalla, Nome fire apparatus tests, and economic shifts in metal prices.
