New Orleans reports seven deaths so far from the Friday tornado wounding and destroying homes across the southern states. Another powerful twister hit eastern Mississippi late yesterday afternoon as authorities tally a growing list of casualties.
Cable reports the Pacific squadron battleships leaving Santa Barbara at six this morning to sail to Monterey after a three day visit. The fleet recently arrived for a city welcome and will participate in a festival today in Monterey, about 250 miles north.
The flotilla, arriving from Hampton Roads Virginia, will soon accompany the battleship fleet as it moves north and receives enthusiastic welcomes at its ports.
