Cable dispatch from The Daily Gateway reports Chilapa, sixty miles northeast of Acapulco, devastated by a powerful earthquake. No building remains, fires rage, ground clefts swallow hundreds, and all communication is cut off. death toll is unknown.
An unnamed mountain opposite Santa Maria volcano erupted and spread ash across Panama. Citizens fled in alarm, abandoning homes as ash clouds darkened towns and disrupted daily life. Authorities urged calm and monitored air conditions amid the sudden disaster.
A drug store in Central Point Indiana known as the blind pig was stormed by enraged citizens who used dynamite to destroy the building amid a raid against alleged illegal liquor sale. The incident followed long suspicions about the establishment.
