Machines Not Large Enough to Use in Polk County Vote
Des Moines reports that Polk county voting machines costing $35,000 cannot be used in the November election. Secretary of State Hayward and deputy Jamison notify Auditor Burnett the machines fail legal requirements due to capacity for only forty names on a ticket, with over forty five candidates in most precincts. Officials question legality of the machines, refer to attorney general for opinion, and plan to prepare ballots the old fashioned way.
