Victor H. Metcalf born October 10 1852 in Utice NL educated at Utica Free Academy and Russell Military Academy of New Haven. He attended Yale 1876 left to join law school, practiced in Connecticut and New York, then California. Elected Congressman in 1898 and 1904 Roosevelt appointed him secretary of commerce and labor, later United States secretary of the Navy.

Francis Marion Drake born December 30 1880 in Hushville led a wagon train to California defeating a Pawnee force of 300 with twenty men. He served as lieutenant colonel of the Thirty sixth Iowa in the oil war and later amassed wealth he gave to charity. Elected governor in 1895 he died at Center Villa November 20 1903.
