Man Injured as Runaway Team Plows West Fourth Street
A frightened team hit by steam noise bolted on West Fourth Street Monday morning, throwing owner WJ Sorenson. He suffered facial cuts and body bruises, was treated at a market, then taken to a doctor. The wagon crashed into a bank window area, pedestrians fled to shops, and the horses were later secured. Sunday night wreck of freight train No 71 near Seele's Mound Iowa section saw eight cars derailed after a detector switch. Fireman Nickle suffered a shoulder injury but others escaped harm as the locomotive remained upright. In a separate Great Western collision at Dyersville Engineer Gibbons died after the engine left the rails and crushed him. Conductor Fischer and the fireman escaped.
