Bankson lawsuits over liquor sales to a minor are settled by out of court agreement. Kentzelman and Jenks case may conclude today as other criminal and civil actions proceed. sheriff warns of a horse theft suspect while divorces and guardianship actions fill a busy district docket.
The Evangelical Lutheran Emanuel church in Waterloo plans a new parsonage for Rev Theodore Wolfram on a Walnut Vine Fremont lot at the church site. Foundation by Gustave Kretzschmar. George Weaver to build the two story stone and cement house with ten rooms, cost around 3500 dollars, near completion. Old parsonage on Walnut will be retained for the parochial school.
Tax assessment figures for Hudson show taxable property value of 76 691 dollars and actual values for land and personal property totaling over 923 844 dollars. The West High senior class stages a two night performance of My Friend From ins in the school auditorium on June 4 and 5, promising a strong turnout.
Traer Iowa May 15 The Traer Methodist Church marks its fiftieth anniversary with the completion of a new church and parsonage at a total cost of about 00. The congregation has grown by nearly 100 members in six months and now numbers 324.

Mrs. S. S. Gillette of 1030 Twenty-second Street reported receiving $100 from Visby Sweden that had been taken by a pickpocket. The incident occurred in Bridgeport Connecticut. Names listed include T. Buck of Heyworth and Mary L. Leeper, both from Heyworth, Harvey T. Shimp and Nellie M. Ellis of Dunkerton. The First Presbyterian Church Ladies plan a sale of pie and lend items on Saturday May 18 in rooms near the east side opera house at 17 Lafayette Street.
Wm. Holland announces his ext regular horse sale to be held here on May 24 with attendance for all horse classes. Buyers from Denver Seattle San Francisco and Winnipes expected. Last sale strong with horses selling well. many pairs at 500 to 860 dollars. May 25 farmers day to include sale of 15 registered Shorthorn cows aged 3 to 6 years and 20 registered Shorthorn calves 12 to 18 months old in prime condition. JH McIntier from Pairhank noted. W. A. Dodd bought a new Ford car identity overnight.
The annual gathering of the Knights of Cousins concluded with a reception and grand ball in Clinton after a convention in Elks hall. Officers were re elected state deputy John J Fleming and others. Delegates from Burlington Des Moines Cedar Falls and more attended. An automobile tour was canceled due to weather while entertainment continued by LeGrande orchestra.
Last evening a well attended meeting of the church boards of Waterloo and Cedar Falls was held at the Waterloo church parlors. About a hundred ladies attended the luncheon and entertainment praised as the best yet seen, with speakers on Sunday school work and layman’s influence. The event emphasized spiritual qualifications for effective service and featured remarks by W. Wyant and other church leaders.
A fire destroyed portions of the Swem Gas Machine Company plant at 331 Amore Street Wednesday morning when a torch used for heating solder ignited tar in the basement. Firefighters stopped the blaze after about thirty minutes. several machines were damaged and losses are estimated in the hundreds of dollars, with insurance covering full damage. The delay in production will disrupt orders.
W Grand Love of Muscatine and B Evans of Des Moines were elected grand master and workman of the A O U W of Iowa Tuesday morning. The nominating committee named no one in Lents B. The per capita tax was raised to 2.40. The next meeting will be in Burlington in 1909. Six candidates sought grand receiver with Minkelstetter of Sioux City leading. Horner convention and much business transacted. Officers elected included Branton grand palace, Palestine vs Cora Spies at Council Binfis Inside Watch Mrs Gussie Mull Muscatine Outside Watch Mrs Rishell Representatives to Superior Lodge Mrs Morcomy Mrs Deets and Mrs Shryock.
The Postmaster General announced that starting July 1 next, any letter or package needing special delivery must bear a regulation special delivery stamp in addition to regular postage. The notice explains that items lacking such stamps will be handled under standard delivery rules. The New First State Bank at Holtein opened its doors with a capital of 25.10.
The article reports on a newly observed fishing law limiting fishing within 900 feet of the fishway and within 300 feet of the weir, allowing spoons with up to three hooks as one unit, and banning more than two hooks per line. Florence Hawn of Vinton and formerly Waterloo married James Howland of Rockwell last Thursday at the home of Mrs. Rudolph Allen in Springfield. The ceremony, witnessed by relatives and close friends, followed a romance long in the making. The couple will reside in Rockwell, where the groom has lived for many years.
In May's Landing New Jersey on May 16 a two hundred strong crusader contingent arrived by special train and formed a line at the county building singing Onward Christian Soldiers. The demonstration accompanied the opening of the county court term where prosecutions are to be pursued. Religious services were held at the courthouse to influence the grand jury.
Nellie Conser of Selinsgrove trained under A J Cassatt era at a block office in South Danville. She learned the key and switching levers and was assigned to Shindel in Snyder County where forty four freight and four express trains pass daily. Supervisors say she is suited for promotion. G D Becker suffers inflammation of an inner ear causing pain and annoyance.
The notice recounts the death of Herman Englert at his daughter's home, aged about 80, born in Germany and emigrated to America around 1850, later settling in Iowa. Survived by his wife, two sons and several daughters, with burial at Barody Catholic Cemetery after a funeral by Rev. Father Horsfeld.
