Medal for Bravery From The President
Waukegan Wisconsin May 6 a bronze medal for bravery and a note from President Roosevelt are awarded to Charles Bennett for saving a woman’s life two years ago. The award came as a rare honor from Congress and the government for risking one’s life to aid another. Bennett lived at 145 Jefferson Street. The president’s letter dated April 4 commends his act during train travel and notes the act occurred September 22, 1905 while Bennett was a railroad brakeman.

She recalls some events during the period while mostly experiencing a nightmare like state. Two years earlier she endured a forty day unconscious spell. Dr Barber, hospital superintendent, says without unforeseen nervous problems she should return to normal health. The family married here years ago and moved to Los Angeles three years ago.
