No Merit in Contention Over Mulct Law in Waterloo Case

Sioux City May 4. County Attorney U G Whitney says there is no merit in the Waterloo attorney H G Beeman's bid to claim liquor laws unconstitutional. Beeman challenged the mulct tax against Jasknow Bros. contending liquor trade is inherently immoral and illegal. Whitney states saloon business is a nuisance and requires regulation, not prohibition.

Bath danger and farm accident in Waterloo area

In Waterloo region a man named John Funk suffered a severe hand injury when a sledge hammer struck his right hand while driving posts on his farm ten miles northeast of Waterloo. Funk, already disabled from a prior threshing machine incident, faced further hospitalization as medical staff investigated the cause of fainting and an apparent bath incident.

Scalded by boiling water at railway office

Miss Mae Qiivey, a clerk in the Waterton Cedar Falls and Northern Railway office, burned her right hand when a pan of boiling water tipped Saturday morning. Ellen Miller of Waterloo reported the incident.

Adultery Plea Leads to Fines in Freeport Court

In Freeport the case of Laurice Smith and Mra Kertig of Oelwein Iowa ended with guilty pleas to adultery. Smith fined 100 dollars plus costs while Kertig faces 500 dollars and costs. The woman remains jailed until the fine is paid and it is likely the father will fund the payment to secure the return home.

Northwestern cooperative coal and dock company formed
