Trial near end as jurors set to hear final Thaw verdict
New York March 14 The Thaw trial nears its climax as twelve jurors near eight weeks of deliberation. District Attorney Jerome seeks to prove Thaw sane and guilty of first degree murder for the Stanford White shooting, with a lunacy commission contemplated as a possible defense. Witness James Clinch Smith testified to a detailed pre shooting conversation, and the judge plans a final summation stage before a possible verdict next week. Also reported is the upcoming entry of the Japanese armored cruiser Tsukuba into Hampton Roads on May 8, a testament to naval speed surpassing U S cruisers, built in two years in a Japanese shipyard.
