Verdict Returned In Horse Purchase Case In Laporte

A jury verdict in Laporte awarded the plaintiff 45 dollars as the difference between the sale price and the horse team that proved diseased and unsuitable for hauling. The court suggested the verdict would stand, citing insufficient evidence to justify a higher award. The case originated from a 150 dollar purchase later deemed unsatisfactory and resold for 106 dollars. The action then shifted to a slander suit involving Mrs. Hamilton seeking 10,000 dollars for alleged defamatory remarks about her character. Mrs. Frank denies the charges and contends the statements were common gossip. A cross petition seeks damages for alleged grave harm to Mrs. Frank’s bakery and reputation, with hearings anticipated at the current term.
