A storm-induced landslide near Loempoo south of Santa Barbara caused a county bridge over the Santa Ynez River to plunge into the water. Twenty people were thrown into the river, twodrowned and several injured, authorities reported from Los Angeles.
Reports from Rup wis Norway and Sweden describe two distant quake shocks felt across a wide region early this morning. No serious damage reported. Observers in Picea Pa noted shocks from 4:45 to 5:29 AM.
Reports from Lodz on June 10 describe a gendarmes patrol firing at an assassin who escaped. Several innocent persons were wounded in the crossfire. A mob of about a thousand men and women dragged James Cullen from the jail at Charles City, beat him, hanged him from a cedar tree at the bridge, and left his body to hang for an hour after his execution following the murder of Mrs Cullen and her son. An autopsy described extensive wounds and a gunshot injury, with officials noting the crowd’s role and the era’s tone of vigilante justice.
