Senate Finally Passes Pure Food Bill After Fifteen Years

Washington February 22 the Senate approved a pure food measure by 63 to 4 with the vote following a largely routine debate. The act makes adulterated or misbranded foods drugs medicines or liquors illegal in DC and U S possessions and bars interstate or foreign shipments of such goods. Punishments include fines up to 500 or a year imprisonment. Only four Democrats Bailey Foster Hacon Til ing voted against.

Jacksonville February 22. Chief of Police George Davis tightens a three day siege on the only disorderly house to starve out Belle Bishop and five inmates. Police Captain Thompson and four detectives were refused entrance Sunday. A guard cut off food and water as a crowd of 500 mobbed the scene on Sunday.
