A devastating lake storm sent the steamship Mataia ashore at Superior Wisconsin with nine crewmen, including the engineer, drowned or lost to the cold. Fifteen others reached shore alive as rescuers battled frigid conditions. A separate Duluth report says steamship William Edenbern ran aground near Two Barbers and its second assistant engineer died while the rest were believed saved.

Libel case in Hazleton Advance editor defended in Iowa court

In Independence Iowa on November 29 special J G Seely editor of the Hazleton Advance faced a libel suit from G L Armstrong of Hazleton. The case involved The Am ena Tracer and a story about an affray printed in October 1904. The jury filed a sealed verdict and the outcome was reported as favoring the plaintiff to five dollars.

Robbers Loot Warehouse in Independence Heist
