Children in Canning Canneries Labor Law Debate

Auto Runaway Causes Johnson County Vehicle Damage

A telephone report to the Clarksville police shortly before noon said a car numbered 2721 tal driven by Herman Stotth caused a runaway incident. The automobile damaged a Bugsy and fled toward Chicago. Officer Werlauber brought the tied party to the station within ten minutes. Arthur E. Olds of Charles City said he would compensate for any damages if at fault. The residents were en route to Chicago.

Teacher to Be Cashier in Pecatonica Bank Opening

E. H. Hamm, former principal at a side high school, to become cashier and in charge of a new branch of Waterloo Loan and Trust Co in Pecatonica Illinois. The move will require the Hamm family to leave Grafton for Pecatonica a growing city of about 1500. Mrs George V Fowler and daughters depart for a Lake Okoboji outing.

Labor crunch hits Vinton canning plants under new child law

In Vinton on August 22, crews from the Vinton Canning Company and Iowa Canning Company faced a labor shortage due to a new child labor law prohibiting employment of children under 14 in plants and husking sheds. Hieber haberdashery sale draws Waterloo crowd

A large throng gathered at Hieber haberdashery for a smoke damaged ladies wear sale opening at 8 AM. Police intervened to quell disturbances as bargains prompted pushing and crowding outside. Sales ran into thousands with stock valued around $30,000, and customers lined up before doors opened.

Social gatherings honor family and guests across town

Mrs. E J Chapman hosted a Wednesday afternoon gathering at 214 Secondsyvenue for her mother Mrs Harriett Bramble age 71 and grandson Harlan Sawdoy age 8 recently returned from Dubuque.
