Attorney General Byers interprets the new child labor law to exclude husking sheds in canning factories from its provisions. He says ordinary carrier belts used in husking sheds are not machinery and that the statute aims to avoid harshly restricting child labor while preserving safety for youths. He argues the law should reflect legislative intent and not be overly rigid.

A telephone report to the Clarksville police shortly before noon said a car numbered 2721 tal driven by Herman Stotth caused a runaway incident. The automobile damaged a Bugsy and fled toward Chicago. Officer Werlauber brought the tied party to the station within ten minutes. Arthur E. Olds of Charles City said he would compensate for any damages if at fault. The residents were en route to Chicago.
E. H. Hamm, former principal at a side high school, to become cashier and in charge of a new branch of Waterloo Loan and Trust Co in Pecatonica Illinois. The move will require the Hamm family to leave Grafton for Pecatonica a growing city of about 1500. Mrs George V Fowler and daughters depart for a Lake Okoboji outing.
In Vinton on August 22, crews from the Vinton Canning Company and Iowa Canning Company faced a labor shortage due to a new child labor law prohibiting employment of children under 14 in plants and husking sheds. The firms previously relied on young workers in sheds, and the law threatens their seasonal earnings as harvest approaches.
A large throng gathered at Hieber haberdashery for a smoke damaged ladies wear sale opening at 8 AM. Police intervened to quell disturbances as bargains prompted pushing and crowding outside. Sales ran into thousands with stock valued around $30,000, and customers lined up before doors opened.
Mrs. E J Chapman hosted a Wednesday afternoon gathering at 214 Secondsyvenue for her mother Mrs Harriett Bramble age 71 and grandson Harlan Sawdoy age 8 recently returned from Dubuque. The event featured decorated tables with birthday cakes, gifts for Harlan, and refreshments assisted by Carl Peterson and Mrs Will Metcalf.
