The thirty fourth annual Hardin county agricultural society fair faced rain but drew large crowds and satisfactory gate receipts. Track events broke county records in trotting pacing and running while livestock exhibits of horses cattle hogs sheep and poultry impressed. Mary Eldora Powers, born July 14, 1902, died August 27, 1904 after an accident at home. The child, aged 2 years, 1 month, and 12 days, was scalded when she pulled a washing machine lever into a kettle of hot water. Doctors treated her through Friday night and again early Saturday. she passed at 3:15 a.m. Saturday. Funeral held Sunday at New Providence Friends Church, Rev. Newby delivering the sermon from 2 Samuel 12:23. The bereaved families extend thanks to neighbors and community for support during their loss.

William Wesley and Susanna Catharine Balmer marked their 50th wedding anniversary at Hubbard on a sunny August 31. During a Thursday night electrical storm Lt. Follett's large East Side barn in Hardin county was struck by lightning and burned with its hay grain and farm implements inside. Horses and buggies were saved. Estimated loss around 84 000 with insured portion unclear. Follett is said to be financially able to rebuild larger than before.

Master Robert, a five year old, delivers clear, trained voice in character songs. An afternoon matinee at 2 o clock today precedes tonight’s four act farce comedy Whose Baby are You.
The district court reports rapid disposal of docket cases since the George vs Shoenhair Otterbach trial. A verdict for George amounted to 83 000. Wormelsdorf vs Huhne favored the defendant with counterclaims. Several divorces were granted this term. Jurors were excused until next Wednesday while grand jurors finished work around 3 p.m. Thursday.
The Floto circus presents a morally uplifting performance founded on strict business principles and top acts. Promoters claim the exhibition embodies beauty honesty and morality and marks Eldora as the venue on Saturday September 10th.
Walter S Nye spent Sunday in the village while Miss Mabel Wood visited from Iowa Falls. Lindley Wood came to visit friends, with Orvil and Ralph Hinshaw off to St. Louis for a week. Milo Hunt visited from Eldora for business Zac. Mrs Aaron Crispen and children from Radcliffe stay with relatives. Prof Styles and Mrs Styles hosted Sunday School classes Tuesday and Thursday. L. Martin of the Friends mission in Cuba preached Sunday morning. Hubbard band gave a benefit in Academy Hall for the local band.
Mr and Mrs Charlie Rutlage announce a baby boy. Mr and Mrs J K Speer travel to Springfield to spend winter with a daughter. Mr and Mrs OH EH Humphreys visited St Louis and millinery stock was bought. Harvest Festival in Union draws mixed views from residents. Prof W S Morgan and family visited Union then plan to move to Deep River where he will be principal for the year.
Timber Valley updates report Grandma Mitchell on the sick list while Lillie Mitchell visited the Hub last Tuesday. Meeker helps Will Mitchell with hay as Frank Mossman visits his uncle A J Mossman Sanday. John McQuay frequents Emory Van Potter's. Timber Valley school to resume after nearly three months. Walter Whitney and family plan to move near his brother Clark. Emery Whitney returns from Lake Park, admired by friends. Jim Taylor, en route with a team to Minnesota, fell ill and returned via Humboldt county.
A party of young people departed for St Louis on Monday. A Arends and bride from Hampton visited friends here last week. The neighborhood sent a fair showing at this week’s country fair. Cramer of Holland circulated among friends here. Lillian Arends of Hampton visits many friends in the community. Ludemann visited near Aplington and attended a mission feast. Gasina Ludemann hosted a small party for her fifteenth birthday. Martin Ribbes and A Kunneigether accompanied wives on a Waterloo trip Saturday. Mrs N Smith and daughter of Lenox S D visit relatives here. Mrs C H Jennings, Boston, notes babies recovering after illness aided by Hollister’s Tea.
