The first day of the fifteenth semi annual Marshalltown District conference began at the M FB church in this city yesterday and continues today. All sessions are open to the public with a cordial invitation extended. The issue has space fillers and claims schedule but remains valuable to general readers.
The winter term of the New Providence Academy opens on Monday November 28. The notice invites new students to enroll for common branches or commercial courses, available to begin at any time.
The case was moved to Franklin county for venue, tried before a jury Monday and Tuesday, but by 5 PM yesterday no verdict had been reached. Thanksgiving turkey shortages are noted locally. Hampton hosts two stock sales on November 30 and December 1 with sixty head offered each day. Poland China hogs Wednesday and Shorthorn cattle Thursday promise quality stock from Scotch breeds. Catalogues available from C. C. Shafer, Hampton Iowa. Col. F. P. Menzile will auctioneer both events.
A special notice in Monday evening papers from Owasa states 24 year old Rev Ernest H Marshall has been assigned to pastor the M B Church at Owasa and will begin duties on December 4th.
The Herald lists arrest items from last Wednesday and previews the semi centennial program at the M E Church. Wednesday features a Marshalltown District Conference, Thursday at 10:30 union thanksgiving service with sermon by Rev C C Warner, Friday 3 to 5 p m auxiliary reception for Lois Addington and Mary Wright, 8 p m entertainment by Miss Alice Stire with local talent. Everything is free to the public. Announcements for Sunday will be in Saturday’s issue.
Louis Sprain entered the 6th grade Monday. A J Cavana president of Ellsworth college visited our schools Friday. Rev E P Fogg financial agent of Cornell College was here Thursday. Edgar gave the physics class two talks on The Utility of the Pendulum. A football team recently organized played a team at the Industrial school Saturday with no official score. Edmund Gilman had a painful accident Wednesday but recovered quickly. Rev Forbes of Philadelphia spoke at the M E church semicentennial session Monday and Dr Forbes gave a witty address. About twenty high school scholars held a search party Saturday evening. the girls hid until 7:30 and the boys could not locate them. All then went to Pratt’s for oyster stew.
William Sterling fourteen residing with his mother at Hastie was found guilty of larceny for stealing a bicycle from the Younger man building vestibule last September. The jury considered whether he was under seventeen. Judge McHenry sentenced him to the reform school at Eldora, noting the juvenile law has no bearing on this indictable offense. He was taken away last evening.
Eldora Iowa notices an adjourned annual meeting of the Eldora cemetery society will convene November 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the secretary’s office for the election of officers and other lawful business. E H Lunpy secretary.
