A balloon ascent at a country fair turns perilous when an improvised parachutist takes the place of a fallen pro. The narrator recalls a near-fatal rush as the parachute twists and finally opens, yielding a terrifying but successful return to earth and a collapse on landing.
A Chicago News captioned gag shows Httle By exclaiming at a lithograph that a giraffe would easily clear a baseball fence. Tommy replies that mornings when your mother begins to scrub your neck with soap and water would be a time you would not want a giraffe to stretch.
The fragmentary text cites quotes from newspapers about social behavior and repartee. It references a Philadelphia Press item titled A Spoiled Compliment and a Chicago News remark about a nurse or parent calling someone a quack. Eldora Iowa November 9 1908 the Hardin county board met at 9 00 am with all members present. In forenoon claims and canvass of November 3 1908 election were handled. Afternoon bids for drainage district No 3 were opened and awarded to Dilley & Berdie of Lake Mills Iowa. A list of elected officers followed including Welden Vigars Burlingame Starr Walsh Kennedy Ward Scurry Wardwell, and township officers across Guna to Union townships. Adjourned to Nov 10 1908.

It promotes Doan's Kidney Pills as a safe remedy, citing Nutting of N Jackson St who says the course cured his kidney issues after eight years of symptoms including back pain and burning secretions. The ad claims Doan's is sold by all dealers for 50 cents and lists Foster Milburn Co as the U.S. agents with the slogan Remember the name Doan's.
