Ellis impressed with a sweet powerful soprano and cultural selections The Last Rose of Summer If No One Ever Marries Me and Magnetic Waltz were heard by attendees.
Six more Hardin county druggists surrender liquor permits after injunc tion notices from the county attorney. The list includes Winters and Swallum Hubbard Swartz Iowa Falls Schultz Ackley Corfe Bros Harden Union. Countywide permit reductions noted. some say the actions may bring back the saloon, but The Herald doubts this outcome for Hardin county.
Party leaving the city offers a ten room house and good barn on two lots five blocks from the court house. City water and bath, with considerable fruit. Will sell cheap if taken at once with a small down payment and low interest on balance. Enquire at First National Bank or at this voice.
Mrs Julina Thornton died at her Providence home on May 18 1905 and was buried May 20 at Honey Creek. Born Feb 15 1831 in Yadkin NC she was 74 years 3 months 3 days old. She joined Honey Creek Friends church and missionary society. Married to John Thornton on Feb 6 1851, she traveled to Iowa with 74 others arriving Sep 1 1851. Survived by seven children, husband, and a daughter gone before.

Rev W E Stanley will present a Gettysburg lecture next Tuesday evening May 30 at the Wisner Opera House with paintings and maps detailing the battle from start to finish. The talk, praised for accuracy by officers who attended, supports the Baptist church Ladies Aid pledge for church improvements. Jennie Allen features Allen ice cream nearby across the street from the opera house.
The Eldora special reports a grand organ dedication at the Iowa Industrial School for Boys with 500 pupils present. Ex Governor William Larrabee and wife funded the instrument, Gov Cummins unable to attend. John Cownie and Hon L G Kinne spoke, with Miss Ellis and Prof Enna performing. the school sent a collective letter of thanks to the donors.
Cord wood sells for 82.75 and 3.00 per cord at Crescent Lumber Co inviting buyers to stock up for next winter. Local advertisement emphasizes ready supply and competitive pricing to attract customers.
Des Moines Iowa reports a cool week ending May 22 1905 with 2 to 4 degrees below normal temperatures and heavy rains the prior week. Planting corn progressed with most districts approaching 50 to 80 percent planted while wet low lands delay field work. Germination on dry warm land is good and pastures and small grains thrive though cherry prospects are poor. overall crop outlook remains satisfactory if weather normalizes.
The International Bioscope Co brings its latest life motion pictures to the Opera House next Friday May 20. Special photographers travel to capture local firefighting scenes from Marshalltown Ottumwa and Oskaloosa plus the Des Moines state parade.
