Returned missionary Miss Bertie Babcock spoke on Japan and its customs last Friday evening at the Baptist church. She described Japanese society as lacking social life, with women treated as inferior and able to be divorced easily, and noted the contrast between rice diets and soldiers fed on stronger foods. Banquet Honors New W C T U Members in Congregational Church
The losing side in a W C T U contest hosted a Friday banquet at the Congregational church basement for all members despite rain. A pleasant program followed with speeches by Mr. Hayes Rev. Van Buren and Rev. Rameau, as Mrs. Anderson welcomed new members and presented white ribbon badges. Members grew to fifty seven with prospects for more and flowers were sent to Mrs J E Groman who is ill.
