The wedding of Mr. Charles Percis Doud to Miss Josephine Cobb occurred Thursday evening at the bride’s parents’ home with a wedding march by Miss Bessie Cobb and Rev. W E Stanley officiating. Relatives from Eldora Hartley Rossi City and Ocheyedan attended. The couple will live in this city. Percy Doud, deputy recorder, is noted as popular. We also note a local advert: 300 men’s and boys’ suits for sale cheap by C E Perry.
The 19 year old daughter of the William Koobs family at Grundy Center assumes caregiver role for eleven siblings under fourteen, following their mother's murder and their father's imprisonment in Independence. One boy sent to Minnesota to live with an uncle who will adopt him. Neighbors pledge assistance to the orphans.
Hardin County School News lists teacher assignments for spring including Lucille Kersey at South Fork Nellie Farrow at Lincoln and Leslie Witmer at Cottage. It notes retirements of long time educators Anna L Burdich Milo Hunt W O Reed S A Fulton Louise Taylor and expresses hope for continued success for new staff.
Mrs Joss T Harnett wife of the Industrial school bookkeeper has been gravely ill at the nurse Mrs Major Towne home for days. Reported slightly improved yesterday but remains in a very serious condition. Will Pelsen who moved his family to Gillespie Ill is also in critical condition. His brother Jno W and sister Anna visited two weeks ago but could not stay long. Two other brothers remain at his bedside and relatives fear possible death though there is still hope for recovery.
Crescent Lumber Co offers cord wood priced at 2.75 and 3.00 per cord for upcoming winter. Bargains promoted for stocking up, with emphasis on value and availability for customers.
Comings and Gowns reports show F. J. McNeil visiting Boone while Rev. Father Convery stops at Rockwell. Dozens of residents including T. T. Roosevelt of Ackley, lawyers and merchants travel for business, education, or family reasons to Des Moines Ottumwa Marshalltown Boise City and Rockwell.
Mrs. D. D. Leach has moved from the Ackley area farm to a newly bought city residence and will be at home to friends in the county seat town. Their son D. V. Leach and family had occupied the local home, while D. D. has been living with his son temporarily.
Mrs A A Seward aged 60 of Providence township died after a paralytic stroke suffered Monday at about 10 oclock. She passed away Thursday morning at 2 oclock. She had lived in the township about thirty years and was highly esteemed. Survived by her husband and two brothers J L Alexander of Eldora and W Alexander of Washington. Funeral held at Hadley church yesterday at 3 oclock. Buy "Black Band" coal sold by Davis & Moser.
