J. S. Polland argues Eldora hosts a top floral establishment and urges citizens to improve homes and public spaces. He suggests planting creepers on the old school brick building, placing flower boxes on the high school lawn, tidying vacant lots, and reforming shade tree pruning to boost prosperity and attract visitors.
In district court the Heinz vs Brabaum case was settled leaving the day without further action. Jury verdicts included McBride Coal and Coke Co. vs Freedman at 140.40 and Alice Grape vs Henry Terveer with a 500 judgment for child support. Multiple cases were settled or dismissed, Lizzie Wait granted divorce from Daniel Wait with 250 alimony, and a two year permit issued to J. D. Reed. Citizens Savings Bank won 564 against F. F. Simpson et al. An injunction blocked illegal liquor sales in Martha Cross vs Swartz and Romaine, with revocation of permits and a 7,000 bond. No major matters Friday. grand jury reported, one public indictment: Walter Weaver re-indicted.
Dr Morse called to Alexander for an important operation on Thursday. Misses Estabrook hosted a luncheon Thursday for Mrs F B Wilson with six place settings. Geo Wills, Nevada electrical engineer, promoted to assistant superintendent at the Goldfield plant. Brown Dry Goods Co begins an opening sale on millinery with a strong display. Four or five trimmers serve special orders. Special sale of Gray Enameled Rice Cookers through April. Free wall paper promotion: with each cash sale of five dollars or more, receive a table gift.
The Herald hosts a two week old contest with piano and buggy prizes plus ten smaller awards. Voters earn many votes through store purchases subscriptions and renewals. Weekly counts show wide participation with many named contestants and a July 8 1909 deadline.
Busy week at Eldora High includes a key piano push for the Herald Business Men's contest with hopes of 700000 votes if students donate. Also reviews The Miser of Raveloe at the auditorium with praise for Miss Fenton and 26 actors.

A fairly good attendance met Wednesday night at clerk Burlingame’s office to discuss baseball. About $800 was in the treasury. Directors elected: Robert Todd James Bales Chas Scurry C F Stauffer T W Burlingame C S Newcomer. Officers chosen: President C S Stauffer vice president T W Burlingame secretary treasurer C S Newcomer. Funds invested at five percent until needed. A future directors meeting will be called by the president.
