Citizens attended a public library meeting to hear reports of the Entertainment Course Association. Treasurer Ellis D. Robb reported a balance of 217.18 and a successful year with good finances, and the 1909 10 season was approved with 1.50 season tickets and 8 15 start times at 8:15 sharp.
T Y McClure longtime Hardin county pioneer and first school teacher in the area died Monday morning at his southwest Hardin county home of pneumonia after about six weeks of illness. Born October 19 1825 in McLean County Illinois he moved to Hardin county in 1851 and helped establish early church and educational work. Survived by his second wife Catherine Palmer, he was previously married to Nancy Bailey. Funeral Thursday at 1 pm from the Baptist church with Rev Stanley officiating. interment in Secor.
Eldora Methodists receive word from Andrew Carnegie pipe organ secretary that Mr Carnegie will pay the last 750 toward a 2000 organ. Mayor Grant Tyler and Rev Van Buren started correspondence about a month ago. Initial letter was discouraging, but fuller explanation brought welcome news of Scots aid. All Eldora people rejoice.
Mrs F J Edgar died Sunday after a recent illness that had slight improvement Friday and Saturday. Her husband Mr Edgar traveled to Sidney Iowa but returned after learning of her decline. Blanche Foster, daughter of Alva and Alice Foster, was born June 27 1880 in this county. She married F J Edgar in 1901 and leaves two children Alvin and Viola. The funeral was held at the Methodist church with Rev Van Buren officiating, and a large crowd attended.
In Hardin County the savings bank reports ample funds on hand to finance first class real estate loans. Officials say the bank holds sufficient reserves to meet loan demand and support local growth.
The Eldora Business Men's Piano and Buggy Contest starts with high turnout and equal chances. Ten prizes split between ladies and gentlemen include a grand piano and a $100 buggy plus purses, with voting beginning and a first count Thursday night. Subscriptions and in-store purchases boost votes. prizes awarded July 8, 1909, 8 o'clock.
Roast pig with currant jelly and potatoes in jackets with gravy, succotash, white bread, shamrocks, steam brown bread, pickles, St Patrick salad, emerald isle sherbet and cake or suet pudding with lemon sauce, coffee.
