Fourth Assistant Postmaster General Bristow outlines July 1 implementation of extra compensation rules for rural free delivery. Carriers may receive payment only from route patrons for merchandise deliveries and cannot accept payments from merchants or newspapers. Government remains sole employer. violations will be pursued.
June Sabbath schools marked a floral Children Day with well rehearsed programs at Congregational and Baptist churches. Supt Hardin led the Congregational effort with refined decorations and a polished show while the Baptist tableau Tost Sheep and the Ninety and Nine solo drew praise. Additional notes mention Wheel er screens trial, an ice cream social at Point Pleasant, and a Rocky Mountain Tea remedy ad from Wilson Drug Co.
Edwin Hoover, traveling agent for Sinclair Tea of Marshalltown, was arrested in this city on a bigamy charge. His alleged first wife swore out the warrant, claiming he had a second wife in Iowa Falls and that they moved from Marshalltown recently. The couple traveled together on past trips, with Hoover reportedly visiting fourteen towns in three counties each month.
A Britt Tribune letter tells of a June wedding at the bride’s parents’ home as Dr Francis E Heacox marries Mattie A Bailey with Rev Quinn officiating The writer recalls a daughter born twenty one years ago and laments the loss of a light at their table while hinting at future mischief and a dentist’s prize. The Freeman Tribune notes a fluent, bright individual who easily ingratiates himself with women and makes rounds in the city. It suggests he may not visit Webster City next month or the following one, and mentions Edwin Hoover and Hidera as limited local connections without a wife here.
