Hardin county Republican voters settled the vacancy for county superintendent of schools naming Miss Julia Scurry as nominee after two ballots. An informal tally had Scurry 6, Kersey 5, with one vote each for Barnes Chassell Roby. formal ballot then gave Scurry 8 to 6. The committee approved expenses against Mrs Sparks campaign fund. The meeting was harmonious. Mrs Chassell had not sought candidacy. Also notices on Dr Brochear toilet goods and a Christian church market at Robb and Son’s store.

The sketch recalls Stephen A Williamson an early Hardin county settler who came to Clay township in 1851. Born November 11 1828 in Baron county Kentucky he trained as a machinist in Peoria and later ran a threshing machine. He moved to Eldora in 1891 and shared vivid reminiscences of pioneer life including buffalo and elk hunts near Eldora.

Death claims another in Eldora at 78
Edwin Gilchrist died at his home in Eldora's Third Ward after a weeks long illness at about 78. Born in Washington County New York in 1828 he moved west in 1863 and settled on a dairy farm south of town before moving to his final home. Survived by his wife formerly Miss Gourlay the family asks for sympathy as Rev. G C Warner conducts the funeral today. an obituary will follow.
