John Cownie, chairman of the state board of control, argues Eldora would be self supporting if the legislature bought more land and supplied teams. He says giving each boy a horse team on the state farm would reduce desertions, prepare workers for farm life, and potentially supply crops for all state institutions.

Mrs Herman Klugger and children visited Searsboro for a week with her mother Chas Sentman. M Minchen went to Eldora on business. Mrs Frank Willis returned from Iowa City after a week with her sister. Hattie Green and Nora Hutzel left for Cedar Falls to attend school. The Missea Jennie and Louise Pot geter returned to Pomeroy after Christmas. Louie Platts and Myron Perkins visited Eldora. John Lukin returned to Cedar Rapids after Christmas. Mrs Cable left for a Wisconsin visit. Will Hutzel and wife went to Wismouth.
Monday the school reopened after two weeks off with Blanche and Clyde Sheldon absent due to sickness. Ernest Johnson drove a cattle car to Chicago. Several local families report sick children and improving conditions. Social visits occurred around New Year with neighbors hosting festivities. Additional notes mention Eldora and Fairfax district pupils and travel issues due to bad roads. John Perkins near ill health staying with daughter Mrs. Hayden.

The offer covers six days a week with full news and fine illustrations, and promises no liquor advertisements. Eldora schools Superintendent A J Cavana spent holiday break designing a new timed bell system in the hallways and classrooms and built a battery powered clock regulator. He also created a sanitary fountain for the grade building, to be moved to the high school due to water pressure issues.
The Ackley World accuses Eldora of pushing a local street improvement around the Hardin county court house square. Eldora funded much of the Hardin county court house, the article notes, and the county should not bear the cost for a project that benefits Eldora alone. The World is urged to support similar improvements in its own town.
Clark Bros. issues note price update. The Youth's Companion lists twenty complete stories in January issues. Among them are adventurous narratives and the Collarton Engine chapters offering suspense akin to a Sherlock Holmes tale.

New Year's Eve brought a pleasant surprise party at Mrs Grunton’s. Cora Wykle married a South Dakota man, Mr Swartz, the same day. S. D. Andrews buys Saul Samis residence for March 1. W A Ufford family moved to Des Moines. Mrs Amos Nerring and children visit from Canada and Mrs Nerring’s parents the Whaleys. The Coreys of Poland ND visit Mrs Corey’s mother and sister, Mrs Manning and Nellie Ellsworth. Mr and Mrs WN Morey of Motley Minn have New Year’s dinner at L N Blair’s. Students were told school may run later than noon in a blizzard to avoid multiple weather days.
Hubbard Misa Jma Hoeffer returned home from Jewell Junction. H. D. Ryant of Wellsburg spent New Year’s day here. Miss Winifred Crosser visited Miss Vera Byam earlier in the week. Miss McDonald of Burt visited Herman Granner’s family last week. Carl Pfund and family of Jewell joined Ed Weatherspoon Sr. and others for a New Year’s dinner and a fiftieth anniversary party.
Having sold my interest in the tailoring business to L. F. Brown, all parties having accounts with me are asked to eat and make settlement as soon as possible. Dec. 1, 1909. V. T. Brown.
