Eldora Citizens to Hear Inter Urban Rail Plan

Commercial Club reports favorable interview results on the Eldora inter urban railway project. A meeting will be held in the Eldora court room on Monday evening with Col. J. M. Parker of Marshalltown and E. A. Ferrin of Chicago addressing citizens and surrounding area to discuss securing the line and financing.

Hardin County Suit Denied Over Road Closure Near Union

Hardin county faced Iowa Central railroad in a Hardin district court term. Judge Evans denied the county’s injunction petition to block closure of a roadway along the railroad right of way near Union. The road had been used publicly for years, but the court ruled against reopening it. The decision leaves Mayor Robb likely to seek another term without opposition.

Tragic death of Melrose woman ends life at 22

Mrs Wm Slifer of Melrose township Grundy county was found dead in bed on Sunday morning. A bottle of chloroform and a note on her person suggested suicide, though her husband cites a happy marriage. Daughter of Thomas Rodd, she had married recently and lived with Slifer’s parents near Alice church. Funeral held at Alice church Monday.

Dedication and holiday events at local churches

The new M E church will be dedicated Sunday December 27. Miss Minnie Whitney and Miss Ruth Colt have returned home for vacation. Maud Shulds is critically ill at her aunt Mrs Ed Coles home southwest of town. Four churches prepare Christmas trees Thursday evening. A home talent play Friday night drew praise and good patronage. Rev Lambly from Chicago conducts Sunday services at the Congregational church. Ice harvest is in full blast with Frank Goshlin and crews filling ice houses. Methodist ladies raised about 200 from their entertainment and bazaar for the building fund.

Walter S Nye left Saturday for Eldora to spend vacation with his parents. Elizabeth Houston will visit Maringo Iowa with her parents. Ilo Hadley taught the intermediate room last Wednesday in Miss Myra Hadley's absence. Prof A F Styles and Mrs Styles, Helen Tostenson, Myra, Mabel Wood, Luther Carter and Walter B Nye joined Prof DeMott Thursday evening for a dinner and lecture on The Harp of the Senses.

Miss Viola Vigars returns to Eldora for holiday vacation while Mrs. Geo Cobb of Eldora visits at the G F Cobb home. Several tonsillitis cases appear in Geo Vigars and Muller families. G F Cobb travels to Aurora to visit relatives and tend a farm. East Ward school adopts a one week holiday. David Wall joins O and W Ry as pumpman at Jewell Junction.

Eldora Visit Sparks Interest in Interurban Terminus

Eldora delegates from the Commercial Club visited Marshalltown Electric Street and Interurban Railway officials to push for Eldora as a terminus of a cross line from Waterloo and Cedar Falls via Grundy Center. A public meeting may be held around the 28th with E A Ferrin addressing attendees. Conrad council plans a franchise ordinance and vote on the project.

At a recent meeting of the railroad's directors in Des Moines and Iowa Falls the decision was made to extend the line northward from its current terminus in Iowa Falls at an early date. The initial terminal point has not yet been decided.
