The Herald prints brief notes from city and county life. Weather, roads, sidewalk work, church notices, and school announcements fill this edition. Prominent items include the Hobson lecture, tax and sewer projects, new hotel re openings, and local weddings plans.
The Herald notes no plans for the Eldora semi centennial celebration while preparing for a likely 200 plus teachers’ enrollment at the normal institute. Mrs Iver Sherman has been seriously ill but is reportedly improving. T J Horine trades his harness shop and building for an eighty acre farm at Chester district near New Providence at $85 per acre. he will work at the bench for a time.

Dr. C C Garriman of Pidotra writes in the Seymour Leader urging Iowa Democrats to unite against Parker and support Roosevelt. He argues both candidates oppose popular government, warns of Wall Street influence, and claims Roosevelt would curb trusts while Parker remains silent on trust issues.
The Herald editor tours Des Moines with W V Willcox and notes the capital city’s grand homes and business blocks. He observes upscale residences costing 35 000 to 100 000 dollars and 6 000 to 12 000 dollar homes, praising streetcar service, extending wages, and Des Moines’ potential to reach hundreds of thousands in population. Willcox is highlighted for his insurance business and civic contributions.
A group of residents from Steam boat Rock Whitten Union Hubbard Radcliffe and Owasa intend to drive to Eldora on Thursday August 11 to hear Capt Hobson speak.

The W R C ladies presented Rev W E Stanley with a silk flag Friday evening at the parsonage in appreciation of his service in the order. Mrs Anderson spoke, and Mr Stanley thanked them warmly. The G A R post also presented Mrs Stanley a silver meat fork, presented by Commander H Thamer.

For the week ending Aug 8 1904 the daily mean temperature ran about 4 degrees below normal and rainfall was scant, aiding harvest of oats spring wheat and timothy seed. Oats and barley yields were fairly good though spring wheat struggled from rust and blight. corn showed improved prospects while potato rot slowed by dry weather. Pastures need rain and apples are progressing well.
The Magnetic Healer of Hubbard Iowa now located in Eldora extends a cordial invitation to investigate this method of healing. It claims cures after all else fails regardless of illness and standing. Madam Bogkenajer operates from an upstairs office near the town hall with telephone access.
