Golden wedding of Uncle Jimmie and Aunt Jane Walker

Des Moines couple James Walker and Sarah Jane Way celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with relatives and friends in Illinois in 1905. The event recalled their early pioneer moves to Grundy and Hardin counties, now totaling twelve children, twenty nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren with four generations present at the golden wedding.

Eldora Public School Instructors Retained Amid Reassignments

The Eldora board re elected the corps of instructors for the next school year with several changes. A. J. Cavana was chosen superintendent on the second ballot at 1250 dollars yearly. Miss Scurry became principal of the grade building and Mrs. Donaldson joined the high school staff to focus on music and drawing. Frank Foster and Chase Polley retained as janitor and staff member, with Foster receiving a five dollar monthly raise.

The Court Letter-Writer 1782 Aged Volume in Private Library

A note on an old grammar and letter writer titled The Court Letter-Writer dating June 19 1782. The rare volume, printed in long f style, recalls honour spellings from the era. Gifted by an 81 year old Benton county friend, it has survived more than a quarter century since the giver’s death and remains precious in our library.
