Sedalia considers zoning fix for industrial districts

Adkins Condition Listed as Fair by Medical Center

Thomas Michael Adkins 17 of 316 East Seventh was listed fair by Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City Kansas as doctors reported he was responding to treatment. He was admitted after a rock was thrown during an altercation with Howard Parish 23 of 1213 East Seventh. Parish remained in jail overnight for investigation of fighting.

Missouri teen reaches finals in homemaker contest

Alice Lee Vogel, 18, a Smith-Cotton High senior, represented Missouri in the finals of the General Mills Betty Crocker Homemakers of Tomorrow Contest in Williamsburg Virginia. The trip included jet travel and stays at the Waldorf Astoria and Statler Hilton with a Capitol Hill reception. The judges posed family and romance dilemmas for the girls to solve, including which suitor the contestant would advise a fictional heroine to marry and how she would respond to a husband taking a foreign job.

Miner Dead as 13 Trapped in South African Mine

In Odendaalsrus Freddie's North mine a rock fall left five miners unaccounted and 13 entombed 5,200 feet underground. Rescue workers said one miner is dead and hope remains for the others amid the complex rescue effort. The deceased is identified as Purépean while the rest are Africans.

Stauffacher Named to Missouri March of Dimes Scholarship Committee

Dr. C Gordon Stauffacher of 700 South Limit is among five Missouri health leaders chosen to select the state’s 20 National Foundation March of Dimes Health Scholarships recipients. The committee will review applications for four year scholarships in medicine nursing physical therapy occupational therapy and social work. Stauffacher will choose the medical scholar. Each award covers 500 dollars a year for a total of 2000 dollars. Criteria include scholastic achievement financial need personal aptitude and professional promise.
