Fifty Men Called For February 19 Induction
Pettis County Selective Service board reported a call for fifty white men to report to Fort Leavenworth Kansas on February 19 for induction. This is the third February call for the local board. Lebert Jerry Holthouser of Clovis New Mexico faces petit larceny charges after a Tuesday arrest by state patrol Sergeant Paul E. Crol and Deputy Sheriff Archie Smith. Bomber Crew Escapes Captors Behind Tunisian Lines
Three members of a U S B 26 bomber crew told how they were shot down behind German lines in Tunisia then overpowered their captors and walked back to American lines after seven days. Pilot Lieut G H Ogburn of Meridian Mississippi tail gunner Sgt H D Smedegar of Lewisville Indiana and Sgt N F Parsons of Birmingham Alabama survived the ordeal. The other three crew members are missing. The six man crew escaped after crashing near a highway and hiding among Arabs before seizing a German car and fleeing toward American lines. They pushed the car over a cliff and wandered through hills for three days and nights before reuniting with an American occupied village.
