Ethiopian government reports an Italian reconnaissance plane was shot down near Deggah Bur at 9 am. The pilot was beheaded, and a skirmish with Danakil irregulars fighting for Italy was noted as Italians suffered losses.
The Supervisors' club of the Missouri Pacific shops hosted a Christmas morning party at the Liberty theatre for 550 children. Volunteers arranged seating, provided a doctor and nurses, and each child received a candy sack. surplus gifts went to Salvation Army Melita Day Nursery and other needy kids.
Premier Mussolini’s navy mobilizes about 13,000 naval specialists. Reports say many served previously in gun rooms. Observers in informed circles expect Italy to respond if the League of Nations imposes an oil embargo, possibly under British Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden’s leadership.
Trenton New Jersey December 26 The governor Harold G Hoffmans press representative announced that at the present time no reprieve is contemplated for Bruno Richard Hauptmann if clemency is denied by the court of pardons. William Conklin said the governor would not be at the state house today and prior statements called reports unauthorized.
Representative Richard M. Duncan of Missouri predicts early passage of the Vinson bonus bill in Congress. A Ways and Means member, he says many who previously backed the Patman measure now favor Vinson believing it has a better chance to pass.

A large congregation attended midnight services at Calvary Episcopal Church on Christmas Eve. Rev. R A Park, newly ordained rector, served as celebrant with impressive rites. The church choir was joined by the boys choir for the celebration.
Arthur W. Cutten, noted grain speculator, remained ill with a heart ailment in a Chicago hospital after a five week stay. Oxygen was administered to aid his condition.
Thieves broke into Shryack Wright Wholesale Grocery Company on Main street and Ohio avenue Wednesday and stole a quantity of cigarettes. A full stock check had not yet determined the loss. Entrance was gained by breaking a rear window glass.

Chinese authorities report 2000 demonstrators gathered at rail points urging peasants to resist Japanese aggression.
A Japanese advised Manchukuo frontier reported two clashes near Lake Bor on December 26. Manchukuo said more than 50 Outer Mongolians invaded. casualties included a Manchukuoan dead and three Japanese wounded. Outer Mongolia denied the charge.
Firemen fought four fires in subfreezing temperatures late yesterday with over 200 feet of hose. George Winters at 520 West Twentieth street lost a roof valued at about $1,000 to a burning flue. George Boothe at 701 South Summitt avenue sustained $10 damage to his home. A gas stove overheated at 420 West Pettis street caused no damage. A stove overheated at 719 Benton avenue led to about $30 in damages to Red Larimore’s home.
Army aviators planned to bomb Mauna Loa to divert a lava stream racing toward Hilo Hawaii with a 600 foot molten river within 15 miles of the city. Twelve fighters flew from Honolulu to attack if weather permits to save Hilo water supplies.
Milton Raymond a 32 year old automobile dealer and nephew of Mrs. Henry Ford died when his car was struck by a New York Central train at Cadmus eight miles west of Adrian Michigan. Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Patton of Seneca also perished. Police said road conditions were slick from a recent snowfall and the car ran 1500 feet along the track before plunging down an embankment.
E. H. McLaughlin was installed as president of the Kiwanis club at a noon meeting in Hotel Bothwell, succeeding retiring president I. H. Reed. New officers include C. L. Hanley as vice president and W. R. Courtney as treasurer. The club highlighted its San Antonio convention honors, 15 percent membership gain, and community projects. Reed received a past president’s pin, with thanks for a standout year. A. D. Aiken of St. Louis spoke as a guest.
The 1936 fiscal year mid-point shows receipts lagging behind expenditures with a deficit of 1.785 billion dollars. For every dollar in revenue since July 1, 1.95 was spent, including 1.10 on general outlays and 0.85 on relief. Federal debt rose to 30.543 billion on December 23 from 28.700 billion on July 1. Total receipts reached 1.865 billion versus 1.811 billion a year earlier, excluding processing taxes.
Twenty nine leaders of a plan to unite Protestant Episcopal churches with the Roman Catholic church appeal to Protestants for support. They criticize Protestantism as bankrupt ethically culturally morally and religiously in the appeal issued by the Church Unity Octave Council.

Two Civilian Conservation Corps camp members died and five were badly hurt when an army truck overturned on Highway 32 near Salem Missouri in fog. The deceased were Raymond A. Todd and Jack A. Eslinger both 21 27 from Springfield. Driver Eugene Boswell was treated at a hospital in Ironton Missouri.
