Missouri lawmakers approve a compulsory attendance act for children aged eight to sixteen, setting duties for parents and guardians, establishing attendance officers, allowances for exemptions, and penalties for noncompliance. The measure assigns enforcement to city boards and courts, with provisions for truancy, school placements, and fines.
Benjamin Wright born August 15 1844 Versailles Morgan County Missouri died August 31 1905 at his Clinton home. He married Anna Hare October 13 1865 Warsaw Benton County Missouri four children two survive him. He moved his family to Clinton about thirty years ago where they built a home. He leaves a widow one brother many relatives and friends. He joined the M E church about eighteen months ago served as trustee for many years and was described as a faithful servant awaiting rest in the arms of his Lord.
Andy Johnson remains on the sick list while Mrs Lizzie Crawford shows improvement. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Walker recently returned from the state air. The Annual Sunday School Canton convened at Warrensburg on August 2 as Rev. J. W. Mud recovers at home after illness.
Joseph Cox of Appleton City attended the funeral last week. Benjamin Wright died at 61. Ira Ackerman died of typhoid fever on N 4th St. The K of P bought a lot on Main St for a potential pythian hall. Clergy and church events noted at St. James and Carthage district conference. The school opened with full attendance.
Mrs Mollie Hughes and her daughters Fanny and Kanies arrived from Kansas City on Saturday. Arthur Craddock is expected to join from St Louis, with Mrs Arthur Craddock guesting with her mother in law Mrs Ophelia Craddock. The former will open school in Elmwood on the 11th. Mrs Moses Mitchell is quite ill with typhoid fever.
