The Post-Dispatch editorial denounces Atlanta mob violence and the lynching of Black men, calling the slaughter a logical outgrowth of mob hatred. It condemns the brutality on Georgia streets and demands state accountability to prevent further blood guilt.
Rev James Ballman, assistant superintendent of the Missouri Society for the Friendless, spoke at George R Smith College on September 2. He warned that arrests of youths under 16 run high in major cities and linked crime to poor home training and bad influences. He cited a reform school with 480 boys where only 40 came from good homes and listed seven steps toward the penitentiary, including disobedience, idleness, truancy, loitering in saloons, gambling, and cigarette smoking.
A city lecture on seven steps to resistance to temptation was made highly impressive by fitting illustrations. The speaker lamented that the talk did not reach every child in the city.
Lexington Mo September 23 06 James H Wilson proposes a stock company to fund Negro fair circuits in Independence Holden Sedalia Fulton Moberly Columbia and Higginsville. The plan calls for 5000 shares at 1.00 each with a 50 share limit per person to train horses for races. Interested locals urged to write to James H Wilson Lexington Mo.
