Surprise Party Honors McDonald and Hobbs at Marshall
The Mount Calvary Free Baptist educational society hosted a July 20 surprise party at the Presleys home in Marshall to honor Rev. J Patton McDonald of Alabama and Prof. Willam Hobbs of Hannibal. Guests included Miss Mattie Williams and Prof. C W Kennedy as part of an evening of innocent amusement and a strong program supervised by Mrs. Geneva Huston and Miss Mattie Williams.

Grand Lodge Delegation Passes Through City
A 100 member Grand Lodge delegation of K P men and women toured our city on two ornate coaches at 4 10 PM. Grand Chancellor Lloyd and aides praised the Joplin Missouri session as the finest in state history and noted the group’s work for racial advancement. Lloyd was re elected Grand Chancellor and hinted at chasing a Republican committeeship.

Receivers Appoint Over Defunct Virginia Car Company
The Virginia Passenger and Power Company which runs Jim Crow street cars in Richmond and other Virginia cities has been placed in receivership. For three months the self respecting colored residents of Richmond refused to ride the cars, leaving the company unable to meet its debts according to the Broad Ax.

Alabama Federation Discusses Reforms and Meeting Plans
The Alabama Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs reports a successful annual meeting in Mobile. A Birmingham Ministers Union letter notes a probation officer earning 10 monthly, while 14 year olds are placed with guardians to find homes. About 200 boys saved from prison via this system. Treasurers’ balance carried over is 116.12, with 694.77 total raised for reform work. The federation will meet in Greenville next year. An investigation over alleged World’s Fair discrimination led to resignation of Levut, 44th Cav, U.S. Army military secretary, upon higher authority’s request.
