Warning on Chinese scale threatens Missouri orchards
The State Fruit Experiment Station warns that the Chinese or San Jose scale pest already found in parts of Missouri could destroy young orchards if unchecked. It urges fruit tree owners to inspect for reddish or sunken bark spots and crusts, send twig or bark samples for confirmation, and participate in control demonstrations. Entomologist KK P Taylor notes most Missouri orchards remain uninfested, but vigilance is essential statewide.
