Mrs. Rachel Guyton wife of Rev J E Guyton died Tuesday morning after a two week illness in Farmington Mo She was born October 5 1864 at High Hill Mo aged 42 years 3 days She joined the Methodist Episcopal Church at eight and was praised as loving mother wife and Christian She leaves a husband four children a sister and two brothers The remains went to St Louis and funeral was held at Union Memorial Church conducted by Rev R E Gillum She was a member of Household of Ruth St Louis and funeral was led by that order

De Pauw honors first Negro with state oratorical win
Samuel Taylor of Indianapolis won first place in De Pauw university's oratorical contest and will represent the college in the state contest in February. His speech was The Heritage of Emancipation, making him the first Negro to represent De Pauw in the state competition, a contest the institution has won more than once.
